General Education Requirements

When choosing your timetable you may have to select general education (gened) electives.

You will be able to choose from Psychology, Sociology, History, Art, Science, Literature and more. These courses are 3 credit courses without a pre- or co-requisite.

General Education strengthens students’ essential employability skills, such as critical analysis, problem solving and communication, in the context of an exploration of topics with broad-based personal and/or societal importance.
Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities

Why do I have to take general education electives?

The Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities requires that students graduating from programs leading to an Ontario College diploma need to be engaged outside of their main study area. This learning has to be separate from program-related studies.

The Ministry has listed 5 themes under which general education courses must fall: Arts in Society, Civic Life, Social and Cultural Understanding, Personal Understanding, and Science and Technology.
